Shift Staffed Homes (SSH) Drop-in Centre was created out of a desire for connection and socialization after the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of the SSH individuals we support felt the need for those important interpersonal connections and meaningful relationships. SSH provides safe and secure, 24-hour residential support for adults with intellectual disabilities.
The Drop-in Centre is based out of one of our Adult Day Services locations. We regularly invite people from all of our 26 homes in Winnipeg, and surrounding areas, to come and take part in weekly events. Through the Centre, SSH individuals can connect with each other on a regular basis, while having a safe place to be themselves.
Thanks to your generosity, the New Directions Basic Needs Fund regularly assists the Drop-in Centre. For example, the Centre is able to host monthly birthday celebrations, (our most popular and highly attended events!) with cake, pop, and pizza. This year, the Drop-in Centre was also able to create holiday baskets for each of our homes and host a holiday party for all 84 of the SSH individuals we support. Santa even came by the party to say hi!
While these events may seem small, they make a huge impact. One individual who attends the Drop-in Centre regularly shared, “My favourite place to hang out during the week is the drop-in centre!”
Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed to the Basic Needs Fund. You are making a difference!
