On September 29th, we hosted an event in recognition of National Day for Truth & Reconciliation.
Over 100 people we support, staff, and community members showed up in celebration and remembrance of September 30th.
Joyce Delaronde and Skinny Kookoo, who previously hosted the Indigenous Comedy Festival ‘All My Relations’ in Winnipeg, were the Emcees for the day.
We were treated to amazing performances from the World Jigging Champion Ryan Guy Richard, and Rey, who performed a number of rap songs filled with their self-reflective and meaningful lyrics.

We also had the opportunity to listen to the powerful personal story of Gramma Shingoose, a familiar face in Winnipeg’s Indigenous community as an activist and elder.
We also heard from two Knowledge Keepers; Charlotte and Gail, who will be sharing their wisdom and guidance with youth in our programs.
Thank you and Miigwech to all the performers and speakers at our event, for sharing your time, your passions, and your stories.
Having the opportunity for the New Directions community to come together to recognize and acknowledge such an important day was powerful and inspiring.
