Multidisciplinary Assessment and Consultation Centre (M.A.C.C)

M.A.C.C offers diverse multidisciplinary clinical and cultural services to individuals who are unable to access community services due to systemic barriers, (e.g., financial, scarcity of resources, language, etc.). Services can involve one or more specialties in an integrated fashion, utilizing a person-centred approach.

Benefits of Group Therapy

These groups are structured groups in which individuals can learn new skills and coping strategies to manage mental health. Group therapy can be a great addition to other proactive health strategies and provides the opportunity to learn from the group facilitators and peers who experience similar challenges. Group therapy has many benefits including:

 

  1. Group therapy helps you realize you are not alone and reduces isolation
  2. Group therapy helps one to give and receive positive encouragement from others
  3. Group therapy can help one learn to relate to others and yourself in a healthier way
  4. One can witness mental health success and wellness in others and inspire hope
  5. Group therapy can help you develop and practice coping skills while receiving feedback

MACC Therapists offer Assessment, Consultation, Therapy (Individual, Couple, Family and Group) as well as Training in the following areas:

  • Psychology
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Trauma
  • Indigenous Knowledge Keeper
  • FASD Consultation
  • Family and Couple Therapy

For individuals receiving other ongoing New Directions services the following specialties are also available as part of an integrated assessment or consultation approach:

  • Pharmacy
  • Psychiatry
  • Nurse practitioner
  • Nutrition
  1. The request for services is matched with a service provider who will contact you to schedule an appointment. The number of sessions will depend on the type and scope of the service.
  2. Therapy groups. Groups offered vary during the year. Examples of groups offered include DBT skills group for adults with disabilities, children’s group, “Ladies’ night” (self-esteem group for women with intellectual disabilities), “The men’s group” (support group for men with intellectual disabilities), youth DBT skills group, etc. Organizations can also request therapeutic or skills groups depend on needs.
  3. Training and consultation. MACC can offer clinical training and consultation to organizations and other service providers.
  4. Contracts can include a written report that is provided at the end of the service along with the receipt for services. Reports can involve one discipline or an integration of disciplines depending on the specific referral.
  5. Service evaluation. At the conclusion of the service, you will be offered the option to provide anonymous feedback regarding the quality of the services you received.

Training

    1. For different roles (staff, care providers, significant others, other agencies, individuals).
    2. Different duration depending on the topic or audience (duration can range from 30 minutes to a full day, and can be spread over various sessions).
    3. Modality of training can be in person or virtual.
    4. Location can be at 717 Portage or at an off-site.
    5. Trainers vary depending on the topic, from various disciplines (e.g., SW, psychology, OT, family therapy, pharmacy, nutritionist, etc).
    6. Some training packages have been developed based on requests and new packages can be developed or adapted based on new requests.

Psychology

  • Assessment/Therapy/Consultation: $215 per hour
  • Cap of $2,600 for assessment
  • No-show fee: $100

Invoice for assessment must be paid in full prior to the delivery of the written report. 

Individuals with school, private or work insurance pay for MACC services directly and are provided a receipt to get reimbursement from their insurance company.

Occupational Therapy

  • Assessment/Therapy/Consultation: $110 per hour
  • Cap of $1650 for Assessment
  • Cancellation/no-show fee: $50

Invoice for assessment must be paid in full prior to the delivery of the written report.

Knowledge Keeper

  • Consultation: $100 per hour
  • Cancellation/No show fee: $50
