My name is Jona and I am a PhD student in Clinical Psychology at the University of Manitoba. I wanted to work with MACC (Multi-disciplinary Assessment and Consultation Centre at New Directions) for my final practicum.  I was able to work with children, adolescents, and adults for individual and group therapy, conduct comprehensive assessments, consult with other team members (e.g., case managers, social workers, OTs) on plans for individuals we were supporting, attend team meeting, trainings, Lunch & Learns, and cultural events, and participate in supervision with Dr. Woods and Dr. Ordóñez.  Overall, my experiences with MACC were both valuable for my training and rewarding, which exceeded my academic and personal expectations. I was in awe of the level of teamwork, compassion, and respect that staff showed to each other and the individuals they support. I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked with MACC and know that I will carry everything I learned into my future career. Jona, PhD student from University of Manitoba 2020

My field placement as a social work student at New Directions was the most motivational experience that I had during my time at the University of Manitoba. I connected with program participants, case managers, coordinators, and other agency staff, all of whom supported my professional and personal growth.
