Resources for Adolescent Parents (R.A.P)

Resources for Adolescent Parents (R.A.P) helps young women complete their High School Diploma while going through pregnancy or caring for their child.

R.A.P is designed for pregnant and parenting young women, ages 14-17 (18+ if in extended care of Child and Family Services) working towards finishing their education while receiving all the extra support they need.

The program offers full-time education in a low enrollment class (max 15 people) at Gordon Bell High School. Students are supported by a Winnipeg School Division Teacher. Onsite childcare is offered through Gordon Bell. Counselling is provided when issues in the students’ lives interfere with attendance and focus.

The role of the R.A.P staff is to work with the strengths that exist in each student, assist them in removing barriers to their success, and encourage them on in their journey. R.A.P students may also attend New Directions Indigenous Cultural activities as well as various activities in the community. An Elder is available to the class to provide teachings, conduct sharing circles, and meet one to one with students.
