Making Sense of Trauma is Back
Trauma can have a profound impact on how people think, feel, and respond to the world around them. Responses such as fight, flight, or freeze are natural survival mechanisms, but they can sometimes be misunderstood as difficult or challenging behaviour.
The Making Sense of Trauma workshop offers practical, accessible information about how trauma affects the brain, body, and behaviour. Participants learn to recognize trauma responses and explore ways to respond with greater empathy, understanding, and connection.
A central part of trauma-informed practice is building safe, trusting relationships. When people feel supported, understood, and connected, they are better able to regulate, heal, and move toward positive change. Developing an understanding of trauma can help participants create safer environments, strengthen relationships, and support more positive outcomes in both personal and professional settings.
At its heart, the workshop encourages a shift in perspective—from asking “What’s wrong with this person?” to asking “What happened to this person?” This simple change can lead to more compassionate, effective, and relationship-based approaches to supporting people impacted by trauma.
