Collaboration in Full Colour
For many of the individuals we support, art is an important and creative outlet. Across our programs, we try to offer a range of opportunities for artistic expression, from our annual art contest to evening craft classes.
Another way we encourage people to tap into their artistic sides is through an annual Christmas craft sale, hosted by Adult Day Services (ADS). All six ADS programs brainstorm a couple of craft ideas and then they work on them throughout November and December. The painting you see here (right) is one of those ideas brought to life, a beautiful collaboration between two individuals in our Transition program, James Carlos and Sami LaFramboise, along with staff.
James Carlos has been attending the Transition program for 10 years. He is kind, caring, friendly, and helpful. He is a very dedicated learner, always participating eagerly in the resource classes and facilitated activities. He is very artistic and loves learning new art techniques.
Sami LaFramboise has been attending the Transition program for 6 years. She is incredibly friendly and always smiling. She is very caring and loves looking out for others and helping out whenever she can. She enjoys colouring and painting and is a big contributor to the ADS craft sale.
The Transition program supports individuals with disabilities and mental health issues, and provides many opportunities for them to engage in meaningful activities with their peers. The program offers classes in life and social skills, literacy skills, sensory awareness, work experience, as well as many recreational activities such as board games, bowling, swimming, museum visits, arts & crafts, and community involvement.
